Early runs enough for Sonoraville at Cass
Sonoraville posted five runs in the first three innings to take a 5-0 lead and never trailed in a 6-2 win Friday night at Cass.
Two Phoenix pitchers — Dawson Townsend and AJ Hensley — combined to scatter five hits and two walks while striking out ten Colonels.
Chase Botts (4 IP, 5ER, 5H, 3BB, 2K) started on the mound for Cass and was tagged with the loss. Devan Hutchinson (2 IP, 1ER, 3H) and Aidan Larkin (1 IP, 0R, 0H, 1BB, 1K) also pitched for the Colonels.
Zach Lyles had three hits including a triple for Sonoraville (6-3). Kannon England and Townsend both drove in two runs each for the Phoenix.
Jesiel Moctezuma had two hits for the Cass offense. Larkin finished with a hit and two RBIs. Bentley Markley contributed a double and Chris Cabe had the other Cass base hit.
Cass (1-11) begins region play Tuesday at Hiram at 5:55 p.m. seeking to end a seven-game skid. The Colonels will complete a three-game region series with the Hornets Friday at home starting at 5 p.m.
