Early runs lift Lady Colonels past Woodland


Darianna Sosa had a double and three RBIs as Cass beat Woodland Tuesday and moved into third place in the Region 7-5A standings.

Cass softball posted five runs in the bottom of the second inning Tuesday night and never trailed in a 7-4 Region 7-5A win over visiting Woodland.


Emma Gibson (4.2 IP, 4ER, 6H, 5BB, 3K) earned the pitching win for the Lady Colonels with Alexis Woods (2.1 IP, 0R, 1H, 1BB, 1K) picking up a save by recording the final seven outs in relief.


Haylee Dishmon paced the Cass offense with three hits and a pair of RBIs. KK Evans followed with two hits including a double. Woods also finished with two hits. Darianna Sosa contributed a double with three RBIs. Ansley Hight (RBI), Braelyn Franklin (RBI), and Harlee Thomason (triple) added one hit each for the Lady Colonels.


Kamryn Smith had two hits and a sac fly for one RBI to lead the Woodland attack. Alana Carnes (RBI), Jordan Hammonds, Peyton Dorn, Cambrie Carrington, and Bailey Sakacsi added one hit each. Karmen Zeferino had one RBI with a sacrifice fly.


Dorn (3.2 IP, 6ER, 10H, 3BB) was saddled with the pitching loss. Ashlyn Dowdy (2.1 IP, 1ER, 1H, 3BB, 1K) also pitched for the Lady Cats.


Woodland slips to 11-11 overall and 5-5 in Region 7-5A following the loss. The Lady Cats play at Wheeler Thursday in a non-region game.


Cass (8-14, 5-4) travels to Dalton Thursday for a 5:55 p.m. first pitch.
