ECA, Woodland drop region games Saturday


The Excel Christian Academy boys along with the Woodland girls and boys basketball teams lost region contests Saturday afternoon. Hosting their annual homecoming game, the Eagles lost to Darlington 61-37. The Woodland girls dropped a 59-29 decision at Hiram while the Wildcats lost to the Hornets, 84-19.



 

DARLINGTON 61, EXCEL CHRISTIAN ACADEMY BOYS 37 Following a close first quarter that Darlington led 12-11, the Tigers pushed their lead to 33-19 by halftime and were ahead 42-23 through three quarters Saturday afternoon at Excel Christian Academy. Braden Bell led Darlington with 16 points. D.J. Johnson and Patrick Shelley both contributed 10 for the Tigers as they improved to 7-10 overall and 6-3 in Region 6-A. Rayshawn Womack was the top scorer for ECA with nine points. Rashard Doyal and Kalil Holley followed with eight each. Jakaden Barkley and Brenden Quillin tossed in five points each. Jake Murray finished with two and Trippe Anderson one for the Eagles. Excel (3-17, 2-8) plays at Gordon Lee Tuesday night at 7 p.m, hosts Mt. Zion-Carroll Friday at 7 p.m., and at Lassiter Saturday at 5 p.m. HIRAM 59, WOODLAND GIRLS 29 The Lady Hornets evened their season record Saturday at home with a 59-29 Region 7-AAAAA win over the visiting Lady Cats. Woodland (4-16, 2-10) hosts Cass Tuesday and Hiram Friday. Both tips are 6 p.m. HIRAM 84, WOODLAND BOYS 19

Hiram led 32-4 after one quarter and 55-7 at halftime Saturday afternoon in their 84-19 win over visiting Woodland. The Hornets improved to 14-6 for the season and 9-3 in region games. Woodland (2-19, 0-12 Region 7-AAAAA) has home games this week against Cass Tuesday and Hiram Friday. Both games are 7:30 p.m. starts.
