Excel boys stay unbeaten in region play


Jakaden Barkley poured in 21 points Tuesday night in the Eagles' 79-48 region win over Lyndon Academy of Cherokee County.

The Excel Christian Academy Boys defeated visiting Lyndon Academy 79-48 Tuesday night to keep their region record undefeated in GAPPS Region 1, I-AA.


The Eagles grabbed a narrow 20-19 lead after one quarter and extended their advantage to 37-24 by halftime.


Excel then outscored the Terriers 32-14 in the third quarter to take command and cruised to a 31-point win.


Jakaden Barkley scored a game-high 21 points to lead four Eagles in double figures. Comari Nettles followed with 17 points. Jacob Taylor contributed 16 and Kyron McClendon added 15 points in the win.


Ethan Hughes and Gavin Beatty led Lyndon Academy (8-4, 1-2) with 20 and 14 points, respectively.


Excel (7-8, 3-0) plays at Unity Christian in Rome Thursday night in a 7:30 p.m. tip following the Lady Eagles game against the Lady Lions.
