Excel Christian Academy splits games Thursday at Oakwood Christian Academy

Excel Christian Academy split basketball games at Oakwood Christian Academy in Chickamauga Thursday night. The ECA girls lost 58-29, but the Excel boys finished an undefeated season in region play by beating Oakwood, 81-58.

EXCEL CHRISTIAN BOYS 81, OAKWOOD CHRISTIAN 58

Following a close first half, Excel Christian grabbed a double-digit lead in the third quarter and held on for win at Oakwood Christian Thursday night, 81-58.

Excel led 43-39 at the intermission, but forged ahead 65-51 by the end of the third quarter en route to a 23-point region victory.

TJ Hubert scored 12 points for ECA. Carter May, Evan Chappell, and Kaiyu Huffman added 11 points each.

Luke Heptinstall led Oakwood (6-14, 0-4) with 17 points. Ryan Phillips scored 15.

The Excel boys (14-8, 4-0) travel to Cumming on Friday for a 7 p.m. tip at Covenant Christian.

OAKWOOD CHRISTIAN 58, EXCEL CHRISTIAN GIRLS 29

The Oakwood Christian girls improved to 10-7 overall and 3-1 in GAPPS Region 1-IA Thursday evening with a 58-29 home win over Excel Christian.

ECA (3-13, 0-4) plays at Covenant Christian Academy in Cumming on Friday at 4:30 p.m.
