Excel outlasts Cornerstone, evens season mark with OT win
The Excel Christian Academy boys evened their season record at 2-2 Monday night with a 79-74 overtime win over visiting Cornerstone Prep.
The game was tied 36-all at the intermission but Excel took a 59-51 lead by the end of the third quarter. Cornerstone (1-4) outscored the Eagles 18-10 in the fourth quarter to send the game into overtime.
Excel then outscored the visitors 10-5 in the extra period to capture the win.
Jakaden Barkley scored 27 to lead the Eagles. Elijah Payne followed with 18 and Comari Nettles finished with 17 points. Jacob Taylor scored 14 and Trey Webb chipped in three points.
Jonathan Everill and Devon Sweat led Cornerstone with 24 points each.
Excel will return to action Thursday, December 2 at home against Pepperell.
