Fast start lifts Chargers in win over South Georgia

Georgia Highlands started fast Friday afternoon and cruised to a 12-1 home win over the South Georgia State Hawks.


The Chargers scored seven runs in the bottom of the first and led 9-0 after two innings in the victory.


Michael Sharman pitched all seven innings for GHC. He scattered four hits and one walk. Sharman needed only 78 pitches and fanned nine.


Luke Orfi had two hits for the Chargers. C.J. Blackwell (three RBIs) and Barrett Eldridge (two RBIs) homered. Gray Wilson (two RBIs), Ryan Martin (RBI), and Ryan Wideman (double) added one hit.


Georgia Highlands (38-6, 10-4) and South Georgia (22-22, 5-9) will complete their four-game series on Saturday with a 1 p.m. doubleheader. The NJCAA 5th-ranked Chargers lead the series 2-0.
