Five-run fifth inning lifts Murray County past Adairsville


The Adairsville Tigers held leads of 1-0 in the second inning and 4-2 in the fourth inning at Murray County, but a five-run fifth inning lifted the host Indians to a 7-4 win Wednesday night in Chatsworth.


The Tigers out hit Murray County, 10 to 4, but Adairsville left base runners in scoring position in three different frames and committed three defensive errors that led to five unearned runs.


Elijah Padgett (5 IP, 7R, 2ER, 4H, 5BB, 8K) was tagged with the Adairsville pitching loss. Wade Dooley (1 IP, 0R, 0H, 1BB) closed out the sixth inning for the Tigers.


Logan Hunt and Braden Powell had two hits each for Adairsville. Kyler Smith drove in two runs with a double. Padgett added a double. Connor Crunkleton and Brenden Carroll contributed one hit and one RBI each. Evan Sanders, Chris Roper, and Padgett added one hit each.


Murray County improved to 5-8 overall and 1-4 in Region 6-AAA.


Adairsville (6-7, 1-2) will host the second game in this series Friday at 5:55 p.m.
