Football playoff pairings for the first round are set

Cass defensive back Todd Gaddy and the rest of the Cass Colonels open the state playoffs Friday, November 12 at St. Pius X.

The first round pairings for local teams in the GHSA State Playoffs are set. The Cartersville Purple Hurricanes (9-0), ranked No. 1 in Class AAAAA, will host Lithonia (4-6) in the opening round at Weinman Stadium while the other two local qualifying teams -- Cass and Adairsville -- must go on the road.

The Adairsville Tigers (8-2) are a No. 3-seed in Class AAA and will travel to Watkinsville to take on the Oconee County Warriors (9-1).

The Cass Colonels (5-5) are the No. 4-seed from Region 7-AAAAA and must travel to 8th-ranked St. Pius X Friday night in DeKalb County. The Golden Lions (8-2) were the champions of Region 5-AAAAA.
