Friday night's high school hoops roundup: Five local teams in action fall

The five local high school basketball teams in action Friday night all lost region games in their final regular season games.

 

MURRAY COUNTY 67, ADAIRSVILLE GIRLS 42 The host Lady Indians led 19-6 after one quarter, 36-20 at halftime, and 53-31 through three quarters in a 25-point win Friday night over Adairsville in Chatsworth. Mattie Nuckolls led Murray with 21 points. Jordan Swanson and Ella Boston followed with 17 and 15 points, respectively. Adairsville was led by Lexie Childers with eight points. Alexa Varner, Alexia Crisp, Ji’Leyah Mitchell, and Autumn Henderson all scored six points for the Lady Tigers. The Murray County girls head into next week’s Region 6-AAA Tournament with a 9-16 overall record. The Lady Indians were 6-10 in region games. Adairsville (5-20, 2-14) will play Haralson County Monday at 6 p.m. in the tournament play-in round at North Murray High School.

MURRAY COUNTY 55, ADAIRSVILLE BOYS 47 The Murray County boys locked up the third-seed heading into the Region 6-AAA Tournament with a 55-47 victory over Adairsville Friday night. Adairsville was led in scoring by T.J. Printup with nine points. Murray County finished the season with an 18-6 mark and completed the region slate 11-5. The Tigers (10-14, 6-10) placed sixth in Region 6-AAA and will begin the tournament Tuesday at North Murray High School against No. 7-seed Coahulla Creek.





VILLA RICA 62, WOODLAND GIRLS 21 Villa Rica’s Aliyah Hindsman made five three-pointers Friday night at Woodland and finished with 25 points in a 62-21 victory. Villa Rica (20-5, 11-5) led 36-12 at halftime and were up 54-14 by the end of the third quarter. Senior Carli Clymer led Woodland with nine points. Woodland (4-20, 2-14 Region 7AAAAA) will host Paulding County Monday night at 6 p.m. in a play-in game for the region tournament. VILLA RICA 75, WOODLAND BOYS 35

The Villa Rica boys secured the No. 4 seed for the Region 7-AAAAA Tournament Friday night with a 75-35 win at Woodland. DiAnthony Heathcock and K.J. Rogers led Woodland with 14 points each. Villa Rica (18-7, 9-7) will square off with Cass Tuesday in the region tournament quarterfinals. Woodland (2-23, 0-16) will host Rome Monday night at 7:30 p.m. in a play-in game for the Region 7-AAAAA Tournament.

BOWDON 78, EXCEL CHRISTIAN ACADEMY BOYS 48 Rayshawn Womack scored a game-high 26 points for Excel Friday night at Bowdon, but it was not enough in a 78-48 loss in Carroll County. The host Red Devils led 21-9 after one quarter, 38-22 at the intermission, and 50-39 by the end of the third quarter before pulling away for a 30-point win. Kalil Holley and Brenden Quillin added eight and seven points, respectively, for the visiting Eagles. Bowdon was led by Kiregus Vaughn with 14 points. A.J. Johnson followed with 13 and Tray Wyatt scored 12 for the Red Devils (14-11, 6-8). Excel finished the 2019-20 season with a 3-22 overall record and a 2-12 mark in Region 6-A.
