Friday's softball action saw local teams win five of six games played.



WOODLAND 19, CHAPEL HILL 8


The Lady Cats earned their first win of the 2025 season Friday evening at Hamilton Crossing Park by defeating the Chapel Hill Panthers, 19-8.


Woodland scored ten runs in the top of the first inning and took advantage of 19 walks issued by Panther pitchers.


Bella Kuykendall (4 IP, 3R, 2ER, 5H, 1BB, 3K) picked up the pitching win for the Wildcats. Kylee Poston (0.0 IP, 5R, 4ER, 3H, 1BB) also pitched for Woodland.


Poston had three hits, including one double and four RBI. Kamryn Smith followed with two hits and four RBI. Bailey Ryan (two RBI) and Bailey Gerstner added one hit. Ashlyn Baines and Kuykendall contributed two RBI. Sonny Hicks, Gracie Korb, Charlotte Peterson, Lillian Hollis, and Madison White added one RBI each.



HART COUNTY 11, WOODLAND 0


The Bulldogs rattled off fourteen hits and scored in all four of their offensive frames Friday night in an 11-0 win over Woodland.


The Lady Cats managed only two hits — one each by Bailey Ryan and Bailey Gerstner — in the loss. 


Bella Kuykendall (2 IP, 5ER, 6H, 2BB) suffered the pitching loss for the Wildcats. Kylee Poston (2 IP, 6ER, 8H) pitched in relief.


Woodland (1-4, 0-2) hosts Cartersville on Tuesday at 6:30 p.m.




ADAIRSVILLE 9, WALKER 0


Pitcher Ashlyn Carlton tossed a five-inning, two-hitter Friday evening and fanned eight as the Lady Tigers won 9-0 at Walker in Cobb County.


Carlton needed just 64 pitches and faced only 18 batters in her complete-game effort.


Adairsville grabbed a 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning, added five runs in the fourth, and two more in the top of the fifth inning.


Lillianne Gunter (three RBI), Ashlynn Durden (double, two RBI), and Cadey Evans led the Adairsville offensive attack with two hits. Ansley Powell (double, RBI), Carlton (double, RBI), and Annabelle Mitchell added one hit.


The Wolverines slipped to 0-1 to begin their season.


The Lady Tigers (2-1) host Northwest Whitfield on Monday at 5 p.m. and Calhoun on Tuesday at 5:55 p.m.



CARTERSVILLE 11, NORTH MURRAY 3


Although the Lady Canes trailed 3-0 in the middle of the third inning Friday afternoon, they posted eleven runs over their subsequent three frames to beat the North Murray Mountaineers 11-3 in five innings. 


The game was played as part of a tournament at Calhoun.


Cartersville out-hit North Murray 14 to 2.


Presley Crabbe (5 IP, 3ER, 2H, 2BB, 6K) earned the pitching victory for Cartersville. 


Addi Burns led the Hurricanes’ offense with three hits. LaKiaya Banks (double, three RBI), Kinsey Woodard (two RBI), Zoie Shiflett (home run, two RBI), Miley Jo Williams (RBI), and Kennedy Crenshaw (double, RBI) contributed two hits.  Sophia Harper added one hit.



CARTERSVILLE 1, MURRAY COUNTY 0


Pitcher Zoie Shiflett scattered three hits and one walk Friday evening in Calhoun to shut out Murray County, 1-0. The Lady Canes’ ace struck out seven.


Cartersville pushed across the game’s only run in the bottom of the third when LaKiaya Banks doubled, moved to third on a hit by Kinsey Woodard, and later scored on an RBI single by Kennedy Crenshaw.


All three hits that produced the Canes’ run came with two outs in the inning.


Banks and Woodard finished with two hits. Crenshaw (RBI), Shiflett, and Sam Evans added one hit.


Cartersville (5-0) visits Murray County on Monday at 5:30 p.m. and Woodland on Tuesday for a Region 7-4A game at 5:30 p.m.



CASS 11, CHAPEL HILL 3


The Lady Colonels needed only five hits and took advantage of eleven walks and two hit batters by Panthers’ pitchers to defeat Chapel Hill 11-3 Friday night at Hamilton Crossing Park.


Cass scored at least two runs in each of their four offensive frames in the five-inning victory.


KK Evans (sac fly, RBI), Kylie Gentry (RBI), Shyia Woods (RBI), Natalie Hughes, and Molli Morrow had one hit each for the Colonels. Braelyn Franklin (sac fly), Harlee Thomason (sac fly), and Bailey York added one RBI.


Cass (2-1, 1-1) faces Hart County on Saturday at 9 a.m. and will host Wheeler on Monday.
