Friday's soccer roundup: Adairsville sweeps LFO while all other local schools split matches

The Adairsville girls soccer team led 4-0 by halftime, controlled play throughout, and defeated visiting Lakeview-Fort Oglethorpe Friday night, 6-0.


The Lady Tigers’ defense allowed only one shot on goal by the Lady Warriors.

Jordyn Hartline opened the Adairsville scoring in the 6th minute off her own corner kick. Alivia Joslin followed with the first of her three goals in the game in the 7th minute. The assist on Joslin’s first goal was from Alexa Damer.


Samantha Gough made it 3-0 in the 24th minute off an assist from Joslin. Gough then fed Joslin one minute later to give the Tigers a 4-0 lead at the intermission.


In the second half, Gough assisted Damer in the 52nd minute and Gabi Becerra assisted on Joslin’s final goal in the 79th minute.


The win secured at least a top-three finish and a state playoff berth for the Adairsville girls in Region 6-AAA. The  9th-ranked Lady Tigers (10-3, 4-1) will host Coahulla Creek on Tuesday.



ADAIRSVILLE BOYS 5, LAKEVIEW-FORT OGLETHORPE 2


The Adairsville Tigers improved to 4-5-2 on the season and 3-1 in Region 6-AAA with a 5-2 home win Friday night over the LFO Warriors.


The loss dropped LFO to 3-8 overall and 1-4 in region play.


The Tigers host 7th-ranked Coahulla Creek on Tuesday at 7 p.m.




WOODLAND GIRLS 2, CALHOUN 1  (OT)


Ansley Burns scored a goal in the 94th minute off an assist from Libby Morgan to lift the Woodland Lady Cats to a 2-1 overtime win at Calhoun on Friday night.


Woodland led in the 4th minute on Burns’ first goal. Reagan Weightman assisted on the opening goal.


Calhoun scored an equalizing goal in the second half forcing overtime.


Coach Kyle Morgan called the win “a collective team effort,” and credited goalkeeper Peyton Keller with an outstanding game.


The loss dropped the Lady Jackets to 6-6 on the season and 1-3 in Region 7-5A.


Woodland (7-2, 2-2) steps out of region play to host Cedartown on Monday at 5:30 p.m. and completes the region slate on Thursday at Hiram.




CALHOUN 2, WOODLAND BOYS 1


An early second-half goal by the host Yellow Jackets was the difference Friday night as unranked Calhoun held off the 8th-ranked Woodland Wildcats, 2-1.


Woodland controlled possession in the first half and led 1-0 on a 32nd-minute goal by Chris Sanchez. Hunter Limbaugh was credited with the assist.


Calhoun tied the score in the 39th minute of the first half to knot the score 1-1 at halftime.


The Yellow Jackets grabbed the lead just four minutes into the second half and held off numerous opportunities for Woodland to find a second-half equalizer.


Woodland keeper, Miguel Pineda, was solid in the net with five key saves in the contest.


Calhoun improved to 9-4-2 on the season and 3-1 in Region 7-5A.


Woodland (7-4, 1-3) plays a non-region home match on Monday with Cedartown (7:30 p.m.) and completes the region slate at Hiram on Thursday (7:30 p.m.)





CARTERSVILLE GIRLS 2, CASS 0


Annabelle Williams added to her region-leading scoring total and Kiley McMichael scored a goal as the Cartersville girls blanked Cass on Friday night, 2-0.


Mallory Nicklas assisted on both Lady Canes' goals.


Williams now has 20 goals and 17 assists to lead Region 7-5A individuals.


The win secured at least a top-two spot in the region for Cartersville and set up a head-to-head showdown with Dalton on Tuesday. The Lady Catamounts are also 4-0 in region play. Both teams will host state playoff games when the tournament begins April 16.


Cass (3-8, 0-4) hosts a non-region match with Sonoraville on Tuesday and visits Calhoun on Thursday.


Cartersville (8-5, 4-0) hosts Dalton on Tuesday at 5:30 p.m.




CASS BOYS 3, CARTERSVILLE 1


The Cass boys soccer team defeated visiting Cartersville 3-1 on Friday night at Cochran Stadium to remain unbeaten in Region 7-5A.


After the two teams battled through a scoreless first half, the Colonels' Edgar Abeja opened the scoring four minutes into the second half off an assist from Mason Madrid.

Camden Hillhouse added the second Cass goal unassisted approximately three minutes later and the Colonels took a 3-0 lead in about the 70th minute when Kayden Pineda fed Melvin Velasquez for a goal. The Hurricanes added a goal in the 78th minute on a free kick.


The loss dropped Cartersville to 3-10 overall and 1-3 in region play.


Cartersville hosts Dalton on Tuesday at 7:30 p.m.


The Class 5A 4th-ranked Colonels (10-2-1, 4-0) host a non-region match with Sonoraville on Tuesday at 7 p.m. before visiting Calhoun on Thursday for a 7:30 p.m. kickoff. 


With a win over Calhoun, the Cass boys would clinch the Region 7-5A title.
