Georgia Highlands drops series opener with Highlanders

In the opening game of a four-game conference series with Gordon State Tuesday, the Georgia Highlands baseball team lost to the host Highlanders in Barnesville, 14-2.
Gordon State took control early with six runs in the bottom of the first inning and added six more in the fourth on their way to a 12-run win.
Declan Dun (3 IP, 6R, 2ER, 5H, 3BB, 2K) suffered the pitching loss for the Chargers. Jeremy Gay (1 IP, 6ER, 5H, 1BB), Garett Sagro (1 IP, 1ER, 1H, 3BB), and Barrett Eldridge (1 IP, 1ER, 2H, 1BB) worked one inning each on the mound.
Ryan Wideman and Austin Slate had two hits each for the Chargers. Parker Poteet contributed a double and two GHC RBIs. Trippe Moore, Jay Murdock, Davis Newman, and Chris Buchanan added one hit apiece.
Gordon State (15-20, 4-5) and Georgia Highlands (25-12, 5-4) continue their series Thursday and Friday with the Chargers hosting a single game Thursday at 2 p.m. and a doubleheader Friday at 1 p.m.
