Georgia Highlands softball swept in conference doubleheader

Georgia Highlands College softball was swept in a conference doubleheader Friday at Stars Field in Cassville, falling 16-10 and 15-7 to East Georgia State.
Allison Deweese had three hits including a home run and two RBIs to pace the Chargers’ offense in the first game. Haley Robinson doubled and hit a grand slam home run. Hailey Cronic also hit a home run for Georgia Highlands.
Gracee Ellis (3 IP, 8ER, 9H, 2BB, 1K) was tagged with the pitching loss in the opener. Maggie Schandera (0.2 IP, 7ER, 4H, 1BB) and Katie Traynor (3.1 IP, 1ER, 5H, 1K) also pitched.
Mac Wilkerson had three hits including a pair of grand slam home runs for the Bobcats.
In Game 2, East Georgia broke open a 4-3 game in the fifth inning by posting 11 runs over their final two offensive frames to ease away with a 15-7 win.
Robinson suffered the pitching loss in the second game for the Chargers. Katie Traynor (0.2 IP, 4ER, 4H) and Ellis (1.1 IP, 5R, 2ER, 5H) also pitched in relief.
Robinson also finished with two hits including a double and one RBI. Deweese contributed two hits and one RBI. Audrey Johnson homered and completed the second game with four RBIs.
East Georgia improved to 29-16 overall and 9-1 in the Georgia Collegiate Athletic Association.
Georgia Highlands (10-24, 3-5) returns to action at home next Tuesday hosting Georgia Military College.
