Georgia Highlands splits Friday doubleheader

Georgia Highlands College split a baseball doubleheader with Lincoln Trail CC (IL) Friday at LakePoint in Emerson. The Chargers recorded a 4-2 win but dropped a 6-1 decision. Johnny Dow (6 IP, 2ER, 6H, 8K) picked up a pitching win for GHC with Jett Kern (1 IP, 1BB, 3K) earning a save in the 4-2 victory.


Chargers’ pitcher Conner Perry (5.2 IP, 4R, 0ER, 7H, 3BB, 6K) suffered the second game loss without allowing an earned run. Levi Ayers (1.1 IP, 2ER, 2H, 1BB, 1K) worked in relief. Mickey Maguire had a three-hit day in the doubleheader. He also scored a pair of runs. Joe Sutton finished the day with two hits including a double, a run scored, and two RBIs. Palmer Sapp recorded a pair of hits, scored a run, and walked twice. Brandon Prince had a double and two RBI in the Chargers win. Gavin Harmon walked three times, drove in a run, and stole a base in the doubleheader.

Georgia Highlands (10-3) returns to the diamond Tuesday at LakePoint against Cleveland State (TN) at 3 p.m. and will face Lake Land College (IL) Thursday in a doubleheader scheduled to begin at 3 p.m. at LakePoint.
