Georgia Highlands sweeps doubleheader with Triton College


The Georgia Highlands Chargers swept a doubleheader Tuesday with Triton College (IL) winning the first game 9-1 and the second game 7-6. The Chargers scored early and often in the opener, building a 7-0 lead with runs in each of the first four innings. Following a scoreless fifth frame, GHC added two more runs in the sixth and held on for a 9-1 victory. Conner Perry took care of the visiting Trojan with a complete-game, two-hitter on the mound for Georgia Highlands. Perry walked three and struck out six. Connor Todaro doubled and homered in the opener totaling five RBIs. Brandon Prince also had two hits for the Chargers.

In the second game, Triton held a 4-1 lead through three innings before the Chargers grabbed their first lead with a five-run fourth inning. The Trojans then answered with two runs in the top of the fifth to knot the score at 6-all.

Following a scoreless sixth inning, Todaro delivered an RBI, walk-off single in the bottom of the seventh to complete the doubleheader sweep.

Matthew Silka (3 IP, 1ER, 2H, 2K) picked up the pitching win for GHC by wrapping up the final three innings. Caleb Garner (2.1 IP, 3R, 2ER, 4H, 2BB, 3K) was the starter on the mound for the Chargers and Steven Thompson (1.2 IP, 2R, 1ER, 0H, 1BB, 3K) worked middle relief. Joe Sutton (double, 3 RBIs) and Todaro (double, RBI) had two hits each for Georgia Highlands. Trace Twardoski (2 RBIs), Prince, David Smith (RBI), and Palmer Sapp (double) had one hit apiece. Georgia Highlands (15-3) will host Tennessee Wesleyan in a doubleheader Monday.
