GHC baseball salvages series finale' win over Wabash Valley


The Georgia Highlands Chargers split a doubleheader Saturday with Wabash Valley College (Illinois) to salvage one game in a three-game weekend series with the Warriors.


The series was played at Pickens County High School in Jasper.


Wabash Valley handed Georgia Highlands its first loss of the season Friday and won the first game of Saturday’s doubleheader, 14-2.


The Chargers responded and won the third game of the series, 9-6.


Wabash Valley pounded out 16 hits in Game 1 Saturday after banging out 14 hits in the series opener. Chargers’ pitchers slowed down the Warrior offense in the series finale’, allowing just six hits.


The Chargers’ Conner Perry (4 IP, 6R, 2ER, 4H, 5BB, 5K) and Cason Rich (3 IP, 0R, 2H, 1BB, 1K) combined on the mound to allow only two earned runs in the GHC win. The two hurlers also combined for six strikeouts.


Eric Moore (5 IP, 10R, 7ER, 13H, 0BB, 3K) and Bubba Luke (2 IP, 4R, 2ER, 3H, 2BB, 2K) were the Chargers’ pitchers.


David Smith and Zayd Brannigan led the Georgia Highlands offense in Saturday’s doubleheader with three hits each. Smith hit a solo home run and added a double and two RBIs. Brannigan finished the day with a pair of RBIs.


Mick Moody (4 RBIs) and Ben Olson had two hits. Ethan Anderson, Max Kops, Parker Poteet, and Caden Smith (RBI, sac fly) contributed one hit apiece.


With Saturday’s doubleheader split, Wabash Valley is now 10-3 on the season.


Georgia Highlands (17-2) returns to the diamond Tuesday at LakePoint against Roane State CC.
