GHC baseball sweeps DH with Bryan College JV


Georgia Highlands College baseball swept a Tuesday doubleheader with Bryan College JV 11-0 and 7-4 in games played at LakePoint in Emerson.

In the opener, the Chargers scored eight runs in the bottom of the first and added single runs in each of their next three frames to close out a five-inning, mercy-rule win. Lavoisier Fisher had two hits and drove in a run for Georgia Highlands. Palmer Sapp tripled and added a sacrifice fly to drive in three runs. Joe Sutton doubled home a run. Trace Twardoski tripled and Bam Thomas finished with a pair of RBIs. Max Kops and Omar Daniels added one hit each for the Chargers.

Four pitchers combined for the shutout.


Jacob Ryan (2 IP, 3H, 5K), Jakob Brown (1 IP, 1H, 1K), Levi Ayers (1 IP, 1H, 1K), and Jett Kern (1 IP, 1H, 3K) pitched for GHC.

In the 7-4 nightcap win, pitchers Chase Townsend (4.1 IP, 4ER, 5H, 3BB, 8K) and Ryan Smithson (2.2 IP, 0R, 1H, 1BB, 5K) combined to scatter six hits and strike out 13.

The Chargers led 3-2 through two innings and extended their lead to 5-2 in the third. Bryan JV posted two more runs in the top of the fourth to narrow the margin to 5-4, but Georgia Highlands answered with two runs in the fourth and kept Bryan off the scoreboard the rest of the way. Twardoski doubled twice in the second game and drove in a pair of runs. Gavin Harmon doubled and finished with two hits and two RBIs. Kops also added two hits and one RBI. Jett Kern, Brandon Price, and Alex Skepton (RBI) contributed one hit apiece for the Chargers.

Georgia Highlands (8-2) is scheduled for a three game series Saturday and Sunday at LakePoint against Lincoln Trail CC. Saturday’s doubleheader starts at 1 p.m. Sunday’s single game is scheduled for a 12 noon first pitch.
