GHC baseball wins series opener with Northwest-Shoals CC

Georgia Highlands baseball won an offensive showcase on Friday afternoon over visiting Northwest-Shoals CC, 14-10.


The two teams combined for 35 hits, including 17 extra-base hits with five home runs.

GHC posted five runs in the first inning to take an early lead, but the Patriots responded with four runs in the top of the second and one more in the fourth to knot the score 5-5. Over the next five innings, the Chargers built an 11-6 lead and added three crucial insurance runs in the bottom of the eighth to hold off Northwest-Shoals.


Four pitchers toiled for Georgia Highlands. Braxton Wade (5.2 IP, 3ER, 7H, 2BB, 6K) picked up the pitching win in middle relief for starter Max Eichenberger (2.1 IP, 4ER, 4H, 3BB, 2K). Gavin Webster (0.1 IP, 3ER, 3H, 2BB, 1K) and Jackson Greer (0.2 IP, 0R, 1H) wrapped up the ninth inning on the mound.


Tyler Phillips (home run, double, three RBI) and Ali Banks (double, RBI) had four hits for the Chargers. Ryan Martin (two homers, six RBI). Heath Whitlock (sac fly, two RBI), Caden Marcos (two doubles, RBI), Andrew Bishop (two doubles, RBI), and Grayson Godbee (double) contributed two hits. Wyatt Gatlin added one hit.


Georgia Highlands (12-3) and Northwest-Shoals CC (10-4) continue their weekend series with a doubleheader on Saturday. First pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m.
