GHC softball drops road DH at Wallace State

The Wallace State-Hanceville softball team showed some offensive firepower in the middle innings of Tuesday’s opener with visiting Georgia Highlands. The Lions posted eight runs in the third through fifth innings to take an 8-1 lead and then held off the Chargers down the stretch for a 9-6 non-conference win.
Jaiden Farnetti, Morgan White, and Madison Adams paced the Wallace State offense combining for four hits and seven RBIs.
Josie Thompson went six innings in the circle for the Lions pitching win. Thompson struck out eight.
Montana Ledbetter (4 IP, 4R, 3ER, 4H, 3BB, 4K) suffered the pitching loss for Georgia Highlands. Maggie Schandera (2 IP, 5R, 3ER, 4H) retired the final six outs for the Chargers.
Izzy Marcotte and Hailey Cronic both had two hits and both homered for GHC. Madison Bennett (RBI), Lacey Rutledge (double, RBI), and Haley Overton added one hit each. Alexis Poole added one RBI for the Chargers.
In Game 2, Wallace State-Hanceville won in walk-off fashion in the bottom of the seventh inning, 3-2.
Marcotte had two hits including a double and one RBI in the Chargers’ loss. Taryn Hitchcock (RBI), Allison Daffron, Hailey Cronic, and Madison Bennett added one hit apiece.
Madalyn Morton (6.2 IP, 2R, 1ER, 5H, 2BB, 4K) suffered the GHC pitching loss.
WSHCC improved to 14-2 with the doubleheader sweep.
Georgia Highlands (5-10) is scheduled next for a doubleheader at Georgia Military College Thursday, March 18.
