GHC softball picks up non-conference wins
This past week on the college softball diamond, the Georgia Highlands Chargers snapped a three-game losing skid Tuesday with a win over Roane State in Game 2 of a home doubleheader and split a doubleheader Sunday at Motlow State. Maggie Schandera earned her first pitching win of the season with a five-inning, complete-game effort in the circle last Tuesday in the Chargers victory. Schandera allowed five earned runs on nine hits and a walk. She fanned two. Catcher Izzy Marcotte homered, doubled, and drove in four runs for GHC. Second baseman Lacey Rutledge added a home run in a two-hit performance. Haley Robinson homered and Taryn Hitchcock finished with a pair of hits. Sunday, Motlow State won the first game of a twin bill 9-1 but the Chargers took the second game 10-0. Allison Daffron had a two-hit game in the loss. Schandera suffered the pitching loss. In the Chargers Sunday win, Madalyn Morton picked up the shutout victory in the circle. She fanned seven. Marcotte drove in four runs with a pair of doubles. Deyonce Lewis and Ansley Todd also had two-hit games. Georgia Highlands (4-5) plays a doubleheader at Roane State Tuesday at 2 p.m. and will participate in the Sun Chief Classic in Gulf Shores, Alabama Friday and Saturday where the Chargers will face Wallace State-Hanceville, Chattanooga State, Central Alabama, and Trinity Valley.
