GHC softball splits conference doubleheader with Georgia Military College

Georgia Highlands College softball split a home conference doubleheader with Georgia Military College on Saturday. The Chargers dropped the opening game 11-8, but won the second game 12-4 in five innings.


Georgia Military led 6-2 in the middle of the fourth inning of the first game, but GHC scored twice in the fourth and added two more runs in the fifth inning to knot the score at 6-all.  From there, the Bulldogs outscored the Chargers 5-2 over the final two frames.


In Game 2, Georgia Highlands raced to an 11-0 lead, pounded out 14 hits, and closed out a victory in five innings.


Cece Williams earned the pitching victory in the second game by working all five innings in the circle. She allowed four earned runs on three hits and four walks. Williams recorded two strikeouts.


Haley Curtis (6 IP, 8R, 5ER, 12H, 2BB, 4K) was the Chargers’ losing pitching in the opening game in relief of starter Emily Ferro (1 IP, 3ER, 1H, 2BB, 1K).


Ahmani Green finished the doubleheader with six hits, including one triple, one double, and six RBI to lead all Georgia Highlands hitters. Alivia Fannin (triple, two doubles, five RBI) and Athens Hudson (three doubles, three RBI) had four hits. Gracie Azpeitia (double, sac fly, two RBI) and Emma Darrow (triple) contributed three hits.


The doubleheader split left Georgia Military with a 12-12 record overall and 1-1 in the Georgia Collegiate Athletic Association.


Georgia Highlands (8-8, 1-1) has a home doubleheader with Northeast Alabama CC on Wednesday and will welcome Gordon State College for a conference doubleheader on Sunday.
