GHC softball takes two from visiting South Georgia


Georgia Highlands College softball won both games of a conference doubleheader Thursday afternoon over visiting South Georgia State CC.


The Chargers won the opening game 7-4 and took down the Hawks 15-7 in Game 2.


Pitchers Jaycie Hand (4 IP, 3ER, 6H, 0BB) and Emma Veitch (3 IP, 1ER, 3H, 0BB, 6K) both worked in the pitching circle in the first win.


In the second game, Rena Fraga (3.2 IP, 5R, 3ER, 5H, 1BB, 4K) made the pitching start and Veitch (1.1 IP, 2R, 1ER, 1H) closed out the final four outs.


Abigail Lathrop paced the Chargers’ offense with six hits in the doubleheader that included two doubles, one triple, and five RBIs. Audrey Johnson followed with five hits that included three doubles and five RBIs.


Allison Deweese finished with three doubles and three RBIs. Daisy Brown totaled three hits including a double and one RBI. Brady Tharp also contributed three hits for the day.


Jordan Blair tossed in two hits including a double and two RBIs during the doubleheader. Malone Aldridge (double, two RBIs), Madison Dennis (double, RBI), Avery Fisher (RBI), Annsley Todd, and Taylor Justice added one hit apiece during the productive day.


With the two losses, South Georgia State CC slips to 6-30 overall and 1-9 in Georgia Collegiate Athletic Association play.


Georgia Highlands (14-20, 8-4) hosts conference foe Georgia Military College next Tuesday.
