GHSA delays football season, keeps other fall sports on current schedule


The Georgia High School Association Board of Trustees voted unanimously Monday to delay the start of the 2020 football season, but will keep all other fall sports on the current schedule. Under the new plan, the first week games may be played will be the week of September 4 instead of August 21. Teams will still play a 10-game regular season and there will be five rounds of playoffs in football. All other GHSA fall sports will remain as scheduled on the current GHSA calendar. Softball will begin August 6, cheerleading starts August 8, volleyball begins August 10, and cross country will have an August 10 starting date. The conditioning schedule for football will remain the same — starting July 27. Players will begin workouts in pads on August 1.
