The Georgia High School Association has released its proposed Classifications for the 2026-2028 Reclassification Cycle. Schools will have until Sunday at noon to appeal or request a move to a higher classification.
The appeals meetings will take place on Monday, November 10, at 10 a.m. at the GHSA offices in Thomaston.
Any schools opting for a higher classification must remain in that classification until the next statewide reclassification.
Geographical region assignments will not be made until classification assignments are finalized.
Currently, schools assigned to Class 5A that have either been in past regions with local schools or are located in the general vicinity of Bartow County include Villa Rica, Dalton, Cartersville, Allatoona, Hiram, Lithia Springs, Blessed Trinity, Woodland-Cartersville, Cass, LaGrange, Central-Carroll, and Cedartown.
Schools currently assigned to Class 4A that are in the general vicinity of Adairsville include Southeast Whitfield, Calhoun, Ridgeland, Heritage-Catoosa, Northwest Whitfield, Gilmer, Pickens, and LaFayette.
Based on historical assignments, not all of these schools will be placed together in a single region, but they are relatively close in geography and may be considered.
The GHSA reclassification committee will strive to balance the number of schools in each region within a classification, taking into account geography, travel time, and other relevant factors.
