GHSA state wrestling update mid-day Friday: Woodland leads Class 5A, all local teams in top ten
The Woodland High School wrestling team is off to a fantastic start at the 2020 GHSA State Traditional wrestling championships at the Macon Centreplex.
The defending champion Wildcats already won the state duals championship earlier this year and will try to complete a two-year sweep of both the team duals and the traditional championship with a win this weekend.
With all classifications finished with the championship round quarterfinals, all four locals teams are in the top ten of their respective classifications.
Woodland has eight individuals still alive for state titles in the championship bracket semifinals to be completed Friday. The Wildcats, who qualified 12 for the state finals in Macon, are also at the top of the Class AAAAA standings with Veterans, Buford, Ola, and Harris County rounding out the top five.
Cass has three individuals still vying for state titles and is sixth as a team in the standings after morning rounds Friday.
Adairsville is ninth overall in Class AAA and has three wrestlers still in contention for individual state titles and Cartersville is tenth overall in Class AAAA with three individuals in the state semifinals.
