GRPA District Five softball and baseball tournaments continue across northwest Georgia

The Bartow County 8U Coach Pitch Softball team outlasted Rockmart 22-20 Tuesday night in an elimination game at Westside Park in Whitfield County. It secured a spot in the Georgia Recreation and Parks Association State Tournament.
Bartow 8U Softball, one of three teams to advance from the District Five double-elimination tournament, plays Summerville on Wednesday night. To win the district title, the winner must defeat host Whitfield County twice in the finals.
Since the beginning of the tournament last Friday, Bartow 8U Softball has won over Calhoun (28-13), Trion (18-14), Rome (17-2), and Rockmart. Their lone loss was to Summerville last Saturday, 18-6.
The Cartersville 8U Coach Pitch Softball team finished fifth in the tournament, following a 24-23 loss to Rockmart on Monday night. The locals also won over Cedartown (20-1) and Calhoun (22-1). Their other loss was to Rome (23-9).
In Chattooga County, the Bartow County 12U Softball team was eliminated Tuesday night and placed fourth in District Five with an 11-5 loss to Murray County. The Bartow team had a 9-3 win over Rome in an earlier elimination game on Tuesday and had a previous 6-3 loss to Trion on Monday.
Cartersville Purple 8U Coach Pitch Baseball has advanced to the GRPA District Five tournament championship round in Whitfield County. On Wednesday night, they will play the Gordon County/Summerville winner at Westside Park. Cartersville Purple 8U is the only unbeaten team remaining in the double-elimination tournament. To claim the district title, it must win one of two potential games in the finals.
In the 10U baseball district tournament in Rome, Cartersville earned wins over Rome Blue (8-5) and Cedartown (13-7) Tuesday night at Lower Alto Park. Cartersville 10U will face the Dalton/Trion winner in a winner’s bracket game Wednesday night.
Bartow County 10U Baseball plays an elimination game against Rome Red on Wednesday evening. If it wins, it will play the Dalton/Trion loser in a second elimination game. The 10U District Five tournament continues through Saturday.
The Bartow County 12U Baseball team finished third at the GRPA District Five tournament in Dalton, and Cartersville 12U placed fourth.
Bartow 12U Baseball won three straight games last weekend before falling 21-4 to eventual district champion Summerville. Bartow’s second loss was 7-5 to runner-up Trion. The local team had wins over Dalton (16-2), Whitfield County (5-3), and Murray County (12-6) in the tournament.
Cartersville 12U was eliminated on Tuesday night with a 5-4 loss to Trion. They finished the double-elimination tournament with a 4-2 record. Cartersville 12U’s wins were over LaFayette (15-0), Cedartown (16-1), Calhoun (16-4), and Murray County (15-7). They had an earlier 18-3 loss to Summerville.
