Henson wrestles for NCAA title on Saturday night

Former Woodland High standout and current Virginia Tech sophomore, Caleb Henson, will wrestle for the 149-pound NCAA championship Saturday night in Kansas City.


Henson, who was seeded No. 4 (29-2), has four consecutive wins in the national tournament to reach the finals. He has victories over opponents from South Dakota State, Oklahoma State, Maryland, and Nebraska top-seed, Ridge Lovett, 1-0 in the semifinals.


Henson will square off with Michigan’s Austin Gomez in the 149-pound weight class championship bout on Saturday night. Televised coverage begins at 7 p.m. on ESPN and ESPN+. Penn State has secured the team national title. Virginia Tech is among the Top Ten in the final standings. By reaching the national championship match, Henson has secured an invitation to the U.S. Olympics trials April 19-20 at Penn State.
