Home runs fuel Cartersville win; Cass rallies past Dalton

LaKiaya Banks and Taryn Bradley both homered and drove in three runs on three hits, and Zoie Shiflett tossed a four-inning, two-hit shutout, lifting No. 1-ranked Cartersville to a 12-0 win Tuesday evening over Woodland at Dellinger Park.
Cartersville led 1-0 through two innings, then added eight runs in the third and three more in the fourth.
Shiflett struck out four and allowed only one walk.
Allana Williams (RBI) and Shiflett (double) contributed two hits for the Lady Canes. Izzy Tummins (RBI), Sam Porter (RBI), and Carder Brock each added one hit.
Bella Kuykendall (2.2 IP, 9R, 6ER, 10H, 1BB, 1K), Rilynn DeBoard (0.1 IP, 2ER, 2H, 2BB), and Evelyne Tucker (0.1 IP, 1ER, 1H, 2BB, 1K) each pitched for Woodland.

Lillian Hollis and Gracie Korb had the only hits for the Lady Cats.
Woodland (8-20, 4-12) completes the regular season on Thursday at Villa Rica at 5:55 p.m.
Cartersville (24-2, 16-0) was ranked No. 2 in the GHSA’s Postseason Rankings entering Tuesday’s game and No. 1 in the ScoreAtlanta poll. The Lady Canes host Kell in a non-region game on Wednesday at 5:30 p.m. and finish the regular season on Thursday at Cass at 5:55 p.m.
CASS 3, DALTON 2
Pitcher Lily Powell struck out six, and Cass out-hit visiting Dalton nine to one, but the Lady Colonels had to battle from behind to scratch out a 3-2 home win over the Catamounts Tuesday night.
Cass trailed 1-0 through the first 4-1/2 innings before pushing across a tying run in the bottom of the fifth and two more in the sixth. Dalton added an unearned run in the seventh, but three straight groundouts ended the Catamounts’ rally.
Powell gave up two runs (one earned) on one hit and four walks, working all seven innings in the circle.
Shyia Woods and Maci Walker each had two hits for Cass, including one double each. Natalie Hughes (RBI), Kylie Gentry (RBI), MJ McFarlane (double, RBI), Kharmyn Collum (double), and Lindsey Chubb each contributed one hit for the Colonels.
The loss dropped Dalton to 3-19 overall and 0-15 in Region 7-5A.
Cass (14-10, 9-7), ranked No. 23 in the GHSA’s Postseason Rankings entering Tuesday’s game, hosts top-ranked Cartersville to wrap up regular season play on Thursday at 5:55 p.m. The top 32 teams will make the Class 5A state playoffs.
