Hot bats help Cass and Woodland earn softball wins

Cass and Woodland had productive games with their bats on Monday. The Lady Colonels secured a region win at Hiram, and Woodland claimed a non-region victory at Walker.
CASS 13, HIRAM 5
The Lady Colonels rattled off 19 hits Monday evening en route to a 13-5 Region 7-4A win at Hiram.
Molli Morrow (home run, four RBI), Bailey York (double, two RBI), Emma Gibson (RBI), and Kylie Gentry (double) had three hits for the Lady Colonels. Rainey Parham (RBI), Lindsey Chubb (double, RBI), and Natalie Hughes contributed two hits. Harlee Thomason had one hit, and Shyia Woods added one RBI.
Gentry earned the pitching victory with a seven-inning performance. She struck out 10 and issued three walks. Four of the Hornets’ five runs were unearned.
The loss dropped Hiram to 4-15 overall and 3-13 in region action.
Cass (15-5, 13-3) hosts Southeast Whitfield for another region game on Tuesday at 5:30 p.m.
WOODLAND 12, WALKER 1
The Lady Cats collected a non-region win on Monday at Walker in Marietta, 12-1.
Evelyne Tucker (4 IP, 1ER, 3H, 1BB, 3K) picked up the pitching win for Woodland. Bella Kuykendall (2 IP, 0R, 0H, 0BB, 1K) closed out the final two innings in the circle.
Bailey Gerstner had two hits, including a home run and four RBI, to lead the Lady Cats’ bats. Kamryn Smith (RBI), Ashlyn Baines, and Bailey Ryan also had two hits. Cat Sneed (double, two RBI), Kylee Poston (RBI), Sonny Hicks (RBI), and Gracie Korb added one hit.
The loss dropped Walker to 5-9 on the season.
Woodland (7-11, 4-8) hosts Cartersville on Tuesday at 5 p.m.
RIDGELAND 15, ADAIRSVILLE 7
Adairsville softball took an early lead Monday night at Ridgeland, but the Lady Panthers answered early and often to defeat the Lady Tigers 15-7.
Adairsville led 4-0 after one-half inning before Ridgeland scored nine runs in the bottom of the first and never trailed again.
The Tigers narrowed the margin to 10-5 in the third and 11-7 in the fourth, but Ridgeland added four runs in the bottom of the fifth to end the game by run-rule.
Chloe Hill (double, RBI) and Maddie Baggett had three hits for Adairsville. Ansley Powell (home run, three RBI) had two hits. Ashlyn Carlton hit a solo home run. Ashlynn Durden and Cadey Evans added one hit.
Ridgeland improved to 9-11 overall and 6-7 in Region 7-3A.
Adairsville (12-11, 3-10) hosts LaFayette on Tuesday at 5:55 p.m.
