Hurricanes and Wildcats win series openers; Colonels blanked at region-leading Allatoona

Cartersville scored four runs early, and pitchers Andrew Purdy and Maddox Frazier limited visiting Cedartown to just one run on four hits Tuesday night at Richard Bell Field as the Canes defeated the Bulldogs 5-1.
Purdy gave up one unearned run on four hits and two walks in the first five innings. He struck out five. Frazier threw two scoreless innings and fanned one.
Cole Crawford had two hits, including a two-run homer in the second inning that gave the Purple Hurricanes a 4-0 lead. Thomas Peters (double), Julez Pratt (RBI), Brayden Logan (RBI), and Tristan McKibben (RBI) added one hit.
The Canes also drew seven walks in the victory.
Cedartown (11-11, 8-5) will host a doubleheader with Cartersville (15-7, 11-2) on Friday at 5 p.m. to complete their three-game series.
WOODLAND 14, HIRAM 4

The Wildcats scored all fourteen runs in the first three innings Tuesday in a five-inning 14-4 victory at Hiram.
The Hornets led 2-1 after one inning, but Woodland scored six runs in the second inning and added seven in the third to take control.
Jake Clowers picked up the pitching win for the Wildcats with a four-inning start. He allowed four runs (all unearned) on five hits and two walks while striking out five. Austin Daves struck out the side in the fifth inning to close out the game.
Lucas Baker drove in four runs on two hits for Woodland, including one double. Clowers also had two hits with one RBI. Alfredo Romo (three RBI), Zaylen Cochran (two RBI), Ben Turcotte (RBI), Grant Tidwell, and Preston Sorrells added one hit.
Hiram (7-15, 2-11) visits Woodland (11-10, 5-8) on Friday to complete the three-game Region 7-AAAA series with a doubleheader slated for 5 p.m.
ALLATOONA 7, CASS 0

Left-hand pitcher and Georgia Tech commit Cooper Underwood struck out fourteen and allowed just one hit while sixth-ranked Allatoona blanked visiting Cass Tuesday night, 7-0.
Chase Tatum had the only hit for the Colonels — an infield single in the fifth inning.
Hunter Lovett (2 IP, 4R, 3ER, 4H, 2BB, 3K) made the pitching start for Cass and was saddled with the loss. Dustin Wallin (1 IP, 1ER, 1H, 4BB, 2K), Nic Wright (1 IP, 0R, 2BB, 1K), Jay Sheldon (1 IP, 2ER, 4H, 1BB), and Landon Lamb (1 IP, 0R, 1H, 1K) pitched one inning of relief each.
Allatoona (19-3, 12-1) plays a doubleheader at Cass (10-11, 5-8) on Friday at 5 p.m. to complete the Region 7-AAAA series.
