Hurricanes drop two at Model
The Cartersville girls and boys basketball teams dropped road games Saturday at Model.
The Lady Canes fell in overtime, 64-63, and the Hurricanes also narrowly lost to the Blue Devils 68-65.
MODEL 64, CARTERSVILLE GIRLS 63 (Overtime)

A huge second half rally by the Cartersville girls sent Saturday’s game at Model into overtime, but the Lady Blue Devils knocked down a shot as time expired to get by the Lady Canes, 64-63. Cartersville trailed 30-19 at halftime but managed a furious second half comeback. Ansley Griffin led Cartersville with 19 points. Lehla Thomas pumped in 10 points and had nine rebounds.
Model improved to 10-9 for the year with their non-region win.
The loss dropped the Lady Canes to 4-12 on the season. They’ll look to pick up their first region win of the year Friday when they host Woodland at the Storm Center.
MODEL 68, CARTERSVILLE BOYS 65

In a contest that never saw a quarter end with more than a three-point margin Saturday, the host Blue Devils outlasted Cartersville 68-65. Cartersville led at the end of each of the first three quarters, 13-12, 34-31, and 48-46 but Model outscored the Hurricanes 22-17 in the final eight minutes to pull out the non-region win. Dane Fisher led Model with 27 points. Carson Cole followed with 10. Jeremias Heard, Derion Richardson, and Colby Couch added eight each for the Blue Devils. Kolbe Benham was the top scorer for Cartersville with 17 points. Amarai Orr was next with 12. Romo Pace contributed 11. Robert Novak finished with seven points. Kam Callahan and Jynerieus Stanley chipped in with six each.
Model improved to 16-4 for the season. Cartersville (7-8, 2-4 in Region 7-AAAAA) returns to region action Friday night at home against Woodland.
