Hurricanes win 2022 baseball opener


Cartersville opened the 2022 baseball campaign Friday evening with an impressive 7-6 home win over Class 6A 8th-ranked Lassiter. The Hurricanes, ranked 4th in Class 5A, got three hits and a pair of RBIs from Harrison Childers along with a pitching victory by Paul Gamble to start the year 1-0.


Curt Bonner and Elliott Eastin both had two hits for Cartersville. Blake Sutton doubled and drove in a pair of runs. Drew Rothschild also contributed a pair of RBIs with one hit and one sacrifice fly. Gamble (double), Hank Smith (RBI), and Jake Brasfield added one hit each.


Gamble (1.1 IP, 2ER, 1H, 2BB, 2K) picked up the pitching win in relief. Colt McKibben (3 IP, 1ER, 2H, 3BB, 2K) started on the mound and Ryan Johnson (2.2 IP, 3R, 2ER, 3H, 2BB, 7K) worked in middle relief.


Nick Newton had two hits including a double for the visiting Trojans. Jared Webb suffered the pitching loss for the visitors. Cartersville (1-0) plays at Sprayberry Saturday at 1 p.m.
