Hurricanes win fourth straight, Lady Canes fall at Cedartown

The Cartersville girls and boys basketball teams split a pair of non-region games Saturday at Cedartown with the Lady Canes falling to the Lady Bulldogs 44-31 but the boys team holding on late for a 63-62 victory in Polk County.
Kam Callahan and Romo Pace led the Hurricanes in their fourth consecutive win with 21 and 19 points, respectively. Luke Gambill contributed seven points. Jamauri Brice, Jaeden Scott, Kaden Scott, and Kedrick Chatmon added four points each for the Canes.
Cartersville led 18-12 after one quarter; 33-26 at halftime; and 45-38 at the end of the third quarter prior to holding on in the final period for a one-point win. M.J. Holiday led Cedartown (0-1) with 26 points. Xavier Holiday followed with 10. Cartersville (4-1) plays at Dalton December 17.
CEDARTOWN 44, CARTERSVILLE GIRLS 31
Cedartown took control early and never trailed Saturday afternoon as the Lady Bulldogs defeated visiting Cartersville 44-31.
Cedartown (1-0) led 13-4 at the end of the first quarter and extended the lead to 23-7 at halftime.
Cartersville outscored Cedartown in the second half, but it wasn’t enough to overcome the early deficit. Makayla Jordan led the Lady Bulldogs with 24 points
Cartersville got 10 points from Layne Callan; eight by Ansley Griffin; and six by Taff Bradley.
Cartersville (1-3) travels to Dalton Friday, December 17.
