Johnson and Roe win individual state wrestling titles; Woodland 3rd, Cass and Adairsville 6th in team scores

The 2024 GHSA Traditional format State Championships wrapped up on Saturday with plenty of local competitors coming away with outstanding finishes.


Adairsville’s Jett Johnson won the 285-pound weight class state title in Class 3A and Kirecg Roe of Cass won the 175-pound division in Class 5A.


Seven other local wrestlers made their respective state championship bout but lost in the finals to finish as a state runner-up. 


Anetra Witherspoon (Cartersville, 190); Jaimen Long (Adairsville, 190); Lee Camp (Cass, 120); Zachary Wallace (Woodland, 138); Hayden Santora (Woodland, 144); John Gill (Woodland, 215); and Kwadrus Wilson (Woodland, 285) all finished second in their respective brackets.


In the Class 5A team race Woodland finished third, Cass was sixth, and Cartersville placed 18th. Ola won the team title with Jefferson finishing second.


In Class 3A, Columbus won the team championship followed by Lumpkin County and Ringgold. Adairsville placed sixth.
