Lady Canes 7th at midway point of Class 5A State Tournament

The Cartersville High School girls golf team is in seventh place following Monday’s first round at the GHSA Class 5A State Championship at the par-73, 5,100-yard Green Island Country Club in Columbus.
Woodward Academy (15-over-par) has a 16 shot lead over Northview (+31) to lead the 36-hole tournament at the midway point. Starr’s Mill (+37) is in third. St. Pius X (+42), Calhoun (+45), and Blessed Trinity (+50) are including in the top six teams. Cartersville (+69), Ware County (+70), Northgate (+73), and McIntosh (+97) round out the top ten. Brooklyn Heath is tied for eighth place in the individual standings and led Cartersville with an opening round 83. Brianna Kim (T-21) shot 92 and Aimee Odom (T-44) fired a 113 for the Lady Canes. Morgan Ellison of Woodward Academy shot an even-par 73 Monday and leads teammate Aly Francis and Ella Manley of Calhoun by one shot with Tuesday’s round remaining.
The Class 5A State Tournament field includes 12 qualifying teams and 52 individual players.
