Lady Canes advance to the Elite Eight

Cartersville Volleyball outlasted the visiting Midtown Knights Saturday afternoon for a five-set win in the second round of the Class 4A state playoffs.
The Lady Canes won the first two sets in the best-of-five match 25-21 and 25-14 before Midtown won the next two sets 25-21 and 25-19.
Cartersville won the decisive fifth set 15-12, ensuring their place in the state quarterfinals, which are set for Tuesday.
Amara Ejieke paced the Hurricanes’ front line with 16 kills and five blocks. Riley Huff had seven kills, eight blocks, and three aces. Holly Dufrene finished with 13 kills, two blocks, and five digs.
Aubree Barrett contributed 20 assists, six digs, and three aces. Sydney Seigler produced 19 digs and three aces. Emma Wall had 18 assists and nine digs, while Mckenzie Wilkie totaled 22 digs.
Midtown’s season ended with a 29-10 record.
On Tuesday, Cartersville (31-11) will travel to North Oconee (33-14) for a state quarterfinal match. The Titans, Region 8-4A champs, have not lost a set in the state playoffs with wins over Locust Grove and Druid Hills.
