Lady Canes advance with an easy first-round win

The Cartersville Lady Canes volleyball team easily advanced in the opening round of the Class 4A state playoffs Tuesday evening with a one-sided, straight-set win over Drew at the Storm Center.


Cartersville (42-6) won the best-of-five match 25-7, 25-4, and 25-14 and will move into the Sweet Sixteen round to host Wayne County on Saturday. The Yellow Jackets (22-8) lost the first two sets of their first-round match with Walnut Grove on Tuesday, but won the final three sets to advance.


The Cartersville/Wayne County winner on Saturday will face the St. Pius X/Blessed Trinity winner in the state quarterfinals on October 21.
