Lady Canes blank Cass; Colonels edge Canes in PK shootout

The Cartersville girls and the Cass boys came away winners Friday night in the head to head region soccer matchups between the Hurricanes and Colonels. With a hat trick of goals by Abbey Craig, the Lady Canes cruised to a 6-0 win at Cochran Stadium. Then, following a 1-1 tie that remained knotted after overtime periods, Cass won a PK shootout 4-3 to edge the Cartersville boys.
CARTERSVILLE GIRLS 6, CASS 0
The Lady Canes led 2-0 at halftime and added four more goals in the second half Friday night at Cass for a 6-0 win.
Abbey Craig scored a hat trick with Hattie Williams, Ansley Holton, and Jocelen Fernandez added one goal each for Cartersville.
Holton, Macy Nicklas, and Williams assisted the Craig goals. Holton added an assist on the Williams goal and Craig also finished with a pair of assists.
The Lady Canes (3-5-1, 1-0) host Heritage-Catoosa Monday at 5:30 p.m.
Cass (2-7-1, 0-2) plays at Pickens Monday, also at 5:30 p.m.
CASS BOYS 2, CARTERSVILLE 1 (4-3 shootout)
The Colonels and Canes each scored second half goals in regulation Friday night at Cochran Stadium sending the Region 7-5A game to overtime knotted 1-1.
Christian Villela scored the Cass goal in regulation. Marvel Velasquez found the net for Cartersville.
Following a pair of scoreless overtimes, the Cass boys won a shootout 4-3 to secure the match victory. Juan Pajarito made the deciding penalty kick for the Colonels.
Cartersville (4-5-1, 0-1) hosts Heritage-Catoosa Monday night at 7:30 p.m. in non-region action.
Cass (7-3-1, 1-1) travels to Pickens Monday night for a 7:30 p.m. non-region kickoff.
WOODLAND GIRLS 3, HIRAM 2
The Lady Cats held on in the second half to defeat the Lady Hornets at Hiram, 3-2.
Woodland led 2-0 at the intermission and added a second half goal to secure the region win.
The loss dropped the Hiram girls to 0-9 on the season and 0-1 in Region 7-AAAAA.
Woodland (5-3-2, 1-1) returns to the pitch next Friday at Calhoun.
WOODLAND BOYS 2, HIRAM 1 (PK win)
The Woodland boys improved to 5-3-3 on the season and evened their region record to 1-1 with a 2-1 win Friday at Hiram. The Hornets slipped to 0-7-1 and 0-2 in Region 7-5A.
Chris Sanchez scored the goal for Woodland in regulation. Neither team scored in the overtime periods and the Wildcats picked up the victory on penalty kicks.
