Lady Canes, Canes, and Tigers drop region games Saturday
The Cartersville girls and boys basketball teams lost Region 7-AAAAA games Saturday afternoon at Hiram and the Adairsville boys dropped a double-overtime decision at Coahulla Creek in Region 6-AAA.
The Lady Canes fell to the 8th-ranked Lady Hornets 58-21 while the Cartersville boys lost 65-62 on a last-second three-pointer by the Hornets.
The Tigers trailed early and battled back in the fourth quarter to send their game into a pair of overtime periods before falling by four to the Colts.
HIRAM 58, CARTERSVILLE GIRLS 21
The 8th-ranked Lady Hornets raced to a 21-4 lead after one quarter and never looked back on their way to a 37-point win. Sydney Jones and Imani Smith led Hiram with 15 and 12 points, respectively.
Kiera Milline scored eight points for Cartersville. Ansley Griffin and Ari Olotu added five points each.
Hiram improved to 13-4 overall and 6-2 in region play.
Cartersville (5-12, 1-7) plays at Calhoun Tuesday at 6 p.m. and will host Blessed Trinity Thursday at 6 p.m. to close out the regular season.
HIRAM 65, CARTERSVILLE BOYS 62
Cartersville battled back from an eight-point, first quarter deficit to lead 50-46 heading into the fourth quarter but fell to a last-second three pointer by the Hornets, 65-62. Hiram led 23-15 after one quarter and 35-34 at halftime before the Hurricanes outscored the Hornets 16-11 in the third quarter. Jaydin Clark led Hira with 15 points. Jay Boyd, Jr. followed with 14 and Jackson Price added 13 for the Hornets (11-8, 6-2). Kam Callahan and Kolbe Benham scored 12 points each for Cartersville. Robert Novak and Amarai Orr finished with 10 points each for the Canes.
Cartersville (8-9, 3-5) travels to Cahoun Tuesday for a 7:30 p.m. start and will wrap up the regular season by hosting Blessed Trinity Thursday.
COAHULLA CREEK 79, ADAIRSVILLE BOYS 75 (2OT)
The Adairsville boys rallied in the fourth quarter Saturday and took their game at Coahulla Creek into overtime tied at 60-all but came up four points short in the extra periods. The host Colts led 14-10 after one quarter; 36-26 at the intermission; and 49-43 through three quarters before the Tigers outscored them 17-11 in the final period to force overtime. Will Locke led Coahulla Creek with 24 points, including a dozen in the two overtime periods. Riley Mutter scored 17 for the Colts and Mario Edwards added 14 points. Tucker Deams paced Adairsville with 29 points on nine, three-pointers. He made seven treys in the second half. Conner Crunkleton and Tre Mitchell contributed 10 points each. Zac Postell finished with eight and Diego Perez added seven points for the Tigers.
Coahulla Creek improved to 9-9 on the year and 5-8 in region action.
Adairsville (10-10, 4-9) has three region games next week. The Tigers play at LaFayette Tuesday, at Lakeview-Fort Oglethorpe Thursday, and host Rockmart Friday.
