Lady Canes come from behind to edge Cass; Woodland tops Dalton

Addi Burns singled in the bottom of the seventh inning, stole second base, and later scored the 6th-ranked Canes’ walk-off run on a fielder’s choice as Cartersville edged visiting Cass on Thursday night, 5-4.


The go-ahead rally was made possible following Jordan Bishop’s two-run home run in the fifth inning that tied the game 4-4.


Zoie Shiflett (7 IP, 4R, 3ER, 5H, 1BB, 8K) earned the pitching win for Cartersville. Emma Gibson (6.1 IP, 5R, 2ER, 8H, 4BB, 1K) suffered the pitching loss for Cass.


Burns and Kennedy Crenshaw finished with two hits each for the Lady Canes. Erin McCrary (three RBIs), Bishop (2 run homer), LaKaiya Banks, and Allana Williams contributed one hit apiece for Cartersville.


Darianna Sosa hit a two-run home run for Cass in the top of the fifth to give the Colonels a 4-2 lead. Reese Howard (RBI), Harlee Thomason, and Braelyn Franklin contributed one hit apiece.


Cartersville (11-5, 8-1) steps out of region play Monday and visits Adairsville.


Cass (5-12, 2-7) plays at Gilmer on Friday at 5:30 p.m. in a non-region contest.



WOODLAND 13, DALTON 4


Ninth-ranked Woodland pounded out 17 hits and won easily at Dalton Thursday night, 13-4.


Haley Collum (4 IP, 1ER, 4H, 1BB, 7K) collected the pitching victory for the Lady Cats. Peyton Dorn (2 IP, 2R, 0ER, 4H, 1BB, 2K), and Ashlynn Baines also pitched for Woodland.


Jordan Hammonds had five hits including a double and two RBIs for the Wildcats. Alana Carnes had three hits including a double and two RBIs. Kamryn Smith produced three hits including a pair of doubles and four RBIs. Elizabeth Hartsfield (RBI), Mackenzie Araya (double, RBI), and Dorn added one hit apiece.


The loss drops Dalton to 2-10 overall and 2-7 in region play.


Woodland (13-6, 6-3) visits Chattooga on Saturday at noon.



COAHULLA CREEK 10, ADAIRSVILLE 1


The visiting Colts posted five runs in the first two innings Thursday night and went on to defeat Adairsville, 10-1.


The Tigers scored their run in the third inning to narrow the margin to 5-1 but got no closer.


Ashlyn Carlton had two hits including one double for the Tigers. Brie Patterson (double), Taylor Evans (double, RBI), Ashlynn Durden (double), Alissa Winters, and Chelsea Bates finished with one hit each.


Bates (1 IP, 5R, 2ER, 5H, 3BB, 2K) was tagged with the pitching loss. Madison Baker (3 IP, 2ER, 1H, 1BB, 2K), Carlton (1.2 IP, 2ER, 1H, 1BB, 2K), and Jordan Clay (0.1 IP, 1ER, 1H) also pitched for the Tigers.


Coahulla Creek improved to 10-5 overall and 3-4 in Region 6-AAA.


Adairsville (2-12, 1-7) hosts Cartersville Monday.
