Lady Canes defeat Calhoun, move into first place tie in Region 7-5A

Ava Perkins struck out six Tuesday as the Lady Canes knocked off Calhoun, 7-3.

Kiley Arnold drove in four runs on three hits Tuesday night to help lead the Cartersville softball team to a 7-3 Region 7-5A win at Calhoun.


Arnold drove in runs with a single in the first inning, a bases loaded walk in the fourth and a home run in the sixth inning.


The Lady Canes led 2-0 with a pair of runs in the top of the first inning; added two more runs in the fourth to lead 4-1; added two additional runs in the sixth inning and one more in the seventh.


Cartersville out hit Calhoun 11-7 in the contest.


Ava Perkins took care of the Cartersville pitching duties, tossing a complete game. The hurler scattered seven his and three walks while striking out six to earn the victory.


Like Arnold, Elizabeth Nelson had a three hit performance with one RBI. Mikey Lewis, Jordan Bishop (RBI), Layne Callan (RBI), Campbell Rogers, and Erin McCrary finished with one hit apiece for the Hurricanes.


The loss for Calhoun (8-3, 4-1) was their first in region play and as a result, Cartersville (5-5-1, 4-1) moves into a first place tie in the Region 7-5A standings. Woodland, rained out on Tuesday, is one-half game back.


Cartersville plays at Hiram next Tuesday at 5:55 p.m.
