Lady Canes dominate Knights in opening round

Amara Ejieke had 13 kills in the Lady Canes' win over Centennial in the opening round of the 2024 Class 4A playoffs.

The third-ranked Lady Canes won their GHSA Class 4A first-round match Tuesday night at The Storm Center with a three-set sweep over Centennial.


Cartersville won 25-21, 25-13, and 25-9.


Sophomore Amara Ejieke led Lady Canes’ attackers with 13 kills. Addison Marisko had six kills, four blocks, and three digs. Riley Huff contributed six kills and two blocks. Addie Rickman added three kills and two blocks.


Aubree Barrett and Emma Wall finished with 16 assists and three service aces each. Barrett added nine digs. Wall totaled seven digs.


The Knights had their season end with a 6-18 record.


Cartersville (30-11) will advance to the second round and host the Midtown Knights (29-9) on Saturday. Midtown defeated Starr’s Mill in four sets on Tuesday in their opening-round match. The Knights were runner-up in Region 4-4A.
