Lady Canes drop non-region game at Villa Rica


Cartersville catcher Jordan Bishop had two hits Monday night in a 5-2 non-region loss at Villa Rica.

Cartersville softball lost a 5-2 non-region decision Monday night at Villa Rica.


The Lady Canes scored first when Kiley Arnold homered in the top of the first inning, but the host Wildcats posted three runs in the bottom of the first for a 3-1 advantage.


Cartersville narrowed the margin to 3-2 in the top of the fourth without the benefit of a hit. A pair of walks, an error, and a wild pitch plated the Canes’ run.


Villa Rica added to their lead in the bottom of the sixth. A pair of walks and two errors led to two more Wildcats runs for an eventual 5-2 final score.


Ava Perkins (6 IP, 5R, 2ER, 5H, 3BB, 2K) suffered the pitching loss for the Lady Canes.


In addition to Arnold’s homer, Jordan Bishop and Elizabeth Nelson had two hits each.


Villa Rica improved to 16-3 with their win.


Cartersville (11-8-1, 9-1) returns to region play Tuesday at home against Hiram and Thursday at Dalton. Both games are 5:55 p.m. starts.
