Lady Canes fall to Villa Rica in first round

The Cartersville girls soccer team lost its opening round game in the Class AAAAA state tournament Tuesday night to Villa Rica, 2-1.

The game was played at Temple High School, a neutral site, due to construction at Villa Rica’s stadium.

Yarizbel Pineda scored the lone Cartersville goal off an assist by Devondria Johnson.

Villa Rica (11-7-1) advances to host Northview in the second round. Northview was a 1-0 winner over Greenbrier Tuesday night. The Lady Canes’ season comes to a close with a 7-7-1 record.
