The Cartersville High School Lady Canes gymnastics team showed continued growth and resilience at the Cherokee Invitational on Friday in Canton.
Competing against several Class 5A and Class 6A programs—including Cherokee, River Ridge, Etowah, Woodstock, Roswell, Lassiter, North Atlanta, and Kell—the Lady Canes posted a solid team score of 95.900, good for sixth place overall in the competitive field.
The team delivered strong individual performances, particularly on vault. Senior Emerie Elrod continued her impressive season, securing another state preliminary qualifying score with a 9.10 on vault.
Freshman Ellie Kate Jones also shone brightly, earning a 9.15 on vault—marking her second state preliminary qualifying score of the season.
Head coach Kimberly Mosteller expressed pride in the team's ongoing progress. "I'm really proud of how the girls are continuing to improve and compete against bigger programs," Mosteller said. "These meets give us invaluable experience as we build toward the postseason.”
The Lady Canes return to action soon when they host their next meet on Saturday at Cartersville Twisters Gym. Competition begins at 9:30 AM, with matchups against River Ridge High School, South Forsyth High School, and Bremen High School.
The home event will double as Senior Recognition Day, where the team will honor its senior gymnasts for their contributions throughout the season.
