Lady Canes, Hurricanes drop non-region games at Sonoraville

The Cartersville girls and boys basketball teams lost non-region matchups at Sonoraville Tuesday night.

The Lady Canes lost 66-42 while the Canes fell to the Phoenix, 70-56.



SONORAVILLE 66, CARTERSVILLE GIRLS 42


Cartersville narrowed an early 13-point deficit to six by halftime but host Sonoraville outscored the Lady Canes 20-7 in the third quarter to take control.

The Lady Phoenix led 23-10 after one quarter and 31-25 at halftime. The hosts built a 51-32 advantage in the third quarter on their way to a 24-point win.


Kayleigh Kelley scored a game-high 24 points for Sonoraville (7-1). Erin Garland added 15.

Senai Camper paced Cartersville with 11 points. Jakayah Draughn scored nine. Nayel Camper finished with seven. Taff Bradley, Kaitlyn Arnold, and Ansley Griffin scored four each. Layne Callan added three for the Lady Canes.


Cartersville (4-1) plays at Paulding County Saturday at 2:30 p.m.


SONORAVILLE 70, CARTERSVILLE BOYS 56


Sonoraville led Cartersville at each quarter stop Tuesday night and held on in the fourth quarter to defeat the Hurricanes, 70-56.

Sonoraville led 20-14 at the end of the first quarter; 43-30 at the intermission; and 57-46 through three quarters on the way to a 14-point non-region win.


Donovan McDaniel scored 16 points to lead the Phoenix. Elijah Woods and Jordy Storey added 15 and 13 points, respectively.

Romo Pace led Cartersville with 19 points. Tyren Milner followed with seven. DJ Cain and Parnel Gamble scored six each. Kaden Baldwin and Jamauri Brice chipped in four each. Chandler Mathison contributed three points and Colin Fletcher added two for the Hurricanes.


Sonoraville improved to 7-0 on the season.

Cartersville (1-2) opens play in the SMI Christmas Classic at Central-Carroll High School Thursday at 5:30 p.m. The Canes will square off with East Paulding in the first round.
