Lady Canes, Lady Colonels notch region victories

Cartersville’s Zoie Shiflett went 3-for-3 at the plate and tossed a seven-inning complete game Tuesday evening to lead the Lady Canes in an 8-3 home region win over Cedartown.
Shiflett’s three hits included a home run and two singles. Her efforts in the pitching circle included seven strikeouts with no walks. She allowed three earned runs on six hits.
Cedartown opened the top of the first inning with three runs on four consecutive hits, but Shiflett settled in to shut out the Lady Bulldogs the rest of the way. Her two-run homer in the bottom of the third inning knotted the score at 3-all.
From there, the seventh-ranked Lady Canes added three runs in the fourth inning and two more in the sixth.

Layne Callan (double, two RBI), Kinsey Woodard, and Lakaiya Banks (RBI) had two hits for Cartersville. Jordan Bishop (triple), Kennedy Crenshaw (sac fly, RBI), Reese Dumas, and Addi Burns added one hit.
The loss dropped Cedartown to 16-12 overall and finished 11-10 in Region 7-4A.
Cartersville (21-5, 18-2), a No. 2 seed in the upcoming Class 4A state playoffs, completes the regular season on Thursday at Southeast Whitfield.
CASS 6, DALTON 5

The Lady Colonels built a 6-2 lead through five innings and held off visiting Dalton for a 6-5 region victory Tuesday night.
Chloe Hill hit a solo home run and had an RBI triple to help pace the Cass offense. Braelyn Franklin (double, two RBI), Darianna Sosa (double), and Molli Morrow also had two hits. Payton Mize (double, RBI), Sydney Satterfield (RBI), and Cayce Brown added one hit.
Kylie Gentry (7 IP, 5R, 1ER, 7H, 3BB, 15) struck out 15 to earn the pitching victory.
The season closes for Dalton with a 7-16 overall record. The Catamounts finished 7-14 in region play.
Cass (16-9, 14-7) will be the No. 3 seed from Region 7-4A in the state playoffs. The Lady Colonels complete regular season play at home Thursday against Adairsville at 5:55 p.m.
ALLATOONA 4, WOODLAND 3
The Woodland Lady Cats wrapped up their 2024 campaign Tuesday evening at fifth-ranked Allatoona with a 4-3 loss.
Kamryn Smith (6 IP, 4ER, 7H, 2BB, 4K) suffered the tough-luck pitching loss for Woodland. She also paced the Lady Cats at the plate with two hits.
Jordan Hammonds, Alana Carnes (RBI), Mackenzie Araya, Lanie Calhoun, and Bailey Ryan added one hit for Woodland.
Allatoona improved to 20-2 on the season and finished 20-1 in Region 7-4A.
Woodland’s season ends with a 7-15 overall record. The Lady Cats finished 7-14 in region play.
