Lady Canes, Lady Tigers, and Lady Colonels grab region wins on Tuesday

All three local high school softball teams in action on Tuesday night earned region victories.

CARTERSVILLE 8, DALTON 0

Zoie Shiflett threw a five-inning no-hitter and perfect game on Tuesday night to blank visiting Dalton 8-0. She struck out 12 of 15 batters faced and needed only 62 pitches.

Cartersville scored single runs in the second and third innings before adding four runs in the fourth and two in the fifth to close out the region win.

Taryn Bradley had two hits, including one double and one RBI for the Lady Canes. Shiflett (sac fly, RBI), Sam Porter (RBI), Kennedy Crenshaw (double), and Sophia Harper each added one hit. Sloan Callen, Emma Miller, and LaKiaya Banks (sac fly) contributed one RBI.

Dalton dropped to 1-9 overall and 0-5 in Region 7-5A.

Cartersville (15-2, 8-0) travels to Allatoona on Thursday at 5 p.m., and will host River Ridge next Wednesday at 5:30 p.m.

ADAIRSVILLE 15, SOUTHEAST WHITFIELD 3

The Lady Tigers scored a dozen runs in the bottom of the first inning Tuesday night and cruised to a 15-3, four-inning win over visiting Southeast Whitfield.

Adairsville outhit the Lady Raiders 15 to 2.

Paislee Rooks collected the pitching win for Adairsville, going all four innings. She allowed three unearned runs on two hits and one walk. Rooks struck out six of 19 batters faced.

Madison Brookshire (two doubles, three RBI) led the Tigers’ offense with three hits. Chloe Hill (three RBI), Hynleigh Statham (two RBI), and Rooks (two RBI) each contributed two hits. Lily Brookshire (double, RBI), Ellie Smith (RBI), Ashlynn Durden (RBI), Lillianne Gunter (RBI), Khloe Shinall, and Heidi Rickett (double) each added one hit.

Southeast Whitfield fell to 2-12 overall and 0-7 in Region 7-4A.

Adairsville (11-5, 6-1) travels to Ridgeland for a 5:30 p.m. region game on Thursday, and plays at Coahulla Creek next Tuesday.

CASS 6, ALLATOONA 2

The Lady Colonels scored all six of their runs in the bottom of the fifth inning on Tuesday night, and beat the visiting Allatoona Lady Buccaneers 6-2 in a Region 7-5A matchup. The Cass win evened the season series with Allatoona, who topped Cass 10-5 on August 7.

Allatoona broke open a scoreless game with a run in the top of the fifth inning, but Cass took advantage of three singles, three Bucs’ errors, and a three-run homer by Natalie Hughes to grab a 6-1 lead. Allatoona added a single run in the seventh, but Lady Colonels’ pitcher Kylie Gentry closed out the win, inducing a groundout to short.

Gentry pitched all seven innings and allowed only one earned run on six hits with no walks. She struck out six.

Natalie Hughes had two hits for Cass, including a three-run home run. Shyia Woods, Abagail Nails, Addy Bauder, MJ McFarlane, and Gentry each contributed one hit. Maci Walker added two RBI and Rilyn Caspari had one RBI.

Allatoona slipped to 6-6 overall and 4-4 in Region 7-5A.

Cass (5-5, 4-4) hosts Cedartown on Thursday at 5:30 p.m. and welcomes Woodland next Tuesday for a 5:55 p.m. start.
