Lady Canes place third at Rome Tourney, Lady Colonels win Christmas Tourney opener


The Cartersville girls and the Cass girls picked up holiday tournament victories Thursday night while the Woodland boys dropped a consolation game at their tournament in Rome.






 

CARTERSVILLE GIRLS 52, MODEL 45

The Cartersville girls won the third place game over Model at the Seven Hills Rotary / Rome News-Tribune Christmas Tournament Thursday night at Berry College. Lehla Thomas led the Lady Canes with a double-double that included 13 points and 11 rebounds. Naijah Evans scored 10 points. Cio Seigler followed with nine. The loss dropped Model to 5-9 on the season. Cartersville, who lost an earlier regular season game to Model, improved to 4-3. The Lady Canes play at Calhoun Friday night at 7 p.m. and will host Woodland Saturday afternoon at 3 p.m.

CASS GIRLS 77, RIDGELAND 46 Claire Davis scored 23 points and Mikaela Jackson poured in 20 as the Lady Colonels beat Ridgeland Thursday night in the opening round of the Chattooga/Gordon Lee Christmas Tournament. Cass led 23-4 after just one quarter and were never really threatened. The Lady Colonels led 47-17 at halftime. Other scorers for Cass included Keara McDaniel with 12 points; Taryn Callahan eight; Justice Bennett six; Ariana Hames and Haley Johnson 3 each; and Amaya Ford added two points. Cass (7-4) will face Pickens Friday night at 7 p.m. The Dragons (7-4) beat Chattooga in the opening round 77-66. PEPPERELL 54, WOODLAND BOYS 46 The Pepperell Dragons held off Woodland Thursday night in the third place boys game of the Seven Hills Rotary / Rome News-Tribune Christmas Tournament with a 54-46 win. Pepperell led 11-5 after one quarter, 28-20 at the intermission, and 37-26 through three quarters.

Pepperell (3-6) was led by Payton Rhodes 26 points. Phoenix Prime added nine for the Dragons.

DiAnthony Heathcock and Connor McGuire scored 16 each for the Wildcats. Woodland (2-8) plays at Cartersville Saturday at 4:30 p.m.
